Tabi (Host): Who’s ready for Season 3 of Interviews With The Stars?
*The studio fills with cheers from the audience as they applaud. Intro music ends.*
Tabi: I’d like to thank SWC for providing us a space to meet new characters from all over the book world and big thank you to all of you in the audience for joining in.
*The applause dies down as the audience members take their seats.*
Tabi: Today we are joined by a strong woman who lives in a post-apocalyptic world, please put your hands together for Ruby!
*Ruby enters the stage wearing a black-hooded cape. She takes a seat in one of the two arm chairs at center stage.*
Tabi: Thank you so much for joining us today, Ruby.
Ruby: My pleasure, but I don’t have too long. The Ghetto Fox’s work is never done!
Tabi: So, Ruby, tell us about the city you’re from in this post-apocalyptic world. What is it like?
Ruby: I wouldn’t call it a very nice place. The whole Ghetto is crumbling and filled with sweepers, gangs, bounty hunters, and slave traders. But I still hold my own.
Tabi: Slave traders, really?
Ruby: Yes. Girls are hunted as prey. Then bought and sold like disposable items. That is why I am determined to survive the Ghetto. And escape the Hub.
Tabi: And what’s stopping you?
Ruby: For a while, I was able to hide, but I was betrayed, which led to me getting captured by the roughest gang.
Tabi: Wow, that’s horrible. And do you know who betrayed you?
Ruby: *shadow darkens my face* Someone very close to me. I don’t like to talk about him.
Tabi: Earlier you mentioned this city had sweepers. What are they and what do they do?
Ruby: Everyone calls them sweepers because they sweep girls up in raids and sweep the Ghetto streets for any signs of them.
Tabi: Do you have a best friend? If so, who are they and what brought you two together?
Ruby: Ink. He’s been with me for two years. Got in a jam one day with a bunch of coyotes and he helped me out. I have this thing about life debts. Not that I could get rid of him either way.
Tabi: We are just about out of time, but I have one last question for you. What do you hope people will gain from reading your story?
Ruby: I hope they recognize how no matter what, human beings should never be bought and sold. And not everything is cut and dry. Too many think girls are selling themselves because it’s their choice, but it isn’t. Even for ones who say it is, it’s only because that world has been created for them and they don’t know of any other. But no girl or boy deserves to be treated like an object.
Tabi: So true. I wish you all the best in your pursuit for freedom. It has been wonderful to chat with you this evening. Thank you so much for travelling all this way to come visit with us.
Ruby *dons her hood*: You’re welcome.
*The audience cheers as Ruby and Tabi stand to leave.*

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Emily Shore is a MN author with a B.A. in Creative Writing from Metro State University and was a grand prize winner of #PitchtoPublication, which led her to working with professionals in the publishing industry.
